“Barbie Anderson had no reason to believe that this particular Thursday would be any different from any of the other approximately 8,395 days of her marriage.” Quote from The Ride
I chose that quote because, like Barbie, my life started spiraling out of control on a recent Thursday morning. Although it was after approximately 14,235 days of marriage and for entirely different reasons, I still found the similarity rather ironic.
I’ve always been a happy, healthy, active, non-smoker. I took it for granted that I’d stay that way, at least for another decade or two. So you can imagine my surprise when I paid a visit to my doctor for what I thought was a minor little respiratory virus on a Thursday morning and found myself in a hospital bed by Thursday night. After over a week’s stay, I received a diagnosis that totally shocked me—lung cancer.
After a few ups and downs and a roller coaster of a ride, Barbie regains control. That’s exactly what I plan to do as well. I know it won’t be easy, but I’m prepared to fight aggressively in order to return my life to normalcy as quickly as possible.
I intend to post the remaining blogs written by Kate Gladstone on handwriting starting tomorrow. After that series, I will probably begin posting once a week.
I do, however, have some good news to share—the Kindle edition of The Ride is now available for only $9.99. Click here to download your copy.
I appreciate all your good thoughts, prayers and well wishes after my previous blog. Your comments and emails meant a lot to me.
Thanks for stopping by.

I'm so sorry to her this news, Jane. It's shocking in the extreme. It seems so cruel and arbitrary, so undeserved, not that we ever deserve the awful things that befall us. But as you say, for a non-smoker such a diagnosis feels implausible, impossible.
Take care, now. My thoughts are with you.
You fight it, Jane!
I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this. It's not fair at all that you would be saddled with lung cancer after such a healthy life.
It sounds like you're in excellent hands, medically. I know you'll 'do a Barbie' and regain your control.

I have been lurking on your blog for several weeks, and I wish I had not had to leave my first comment on such a post.
Ending up with a diagnosis of lung cancer when there is really no reason for you to have got it, is so arbitrary. Sending positive thoughts your way. I am sure you will conquer.
All the best.
That is shocking! I am so sorry. But if you've been healthy until now and done all the right things, that will aid in your fight against this! You can beat it.
Oh Jane, how awful. I'm so sorry that you're having to deal with this. You have a fabulous attitude and a strong, fighting spirit. You'll get through this. If you ever need a sounding board, feel free to use me. :)
I'm so sorry for all you've been through this past week, it is so surprising! I'm sure your good health habits thus far will certainly give you strength to fight this. Sending prayers and strength your way.
Jane, I'm so sorry. You are in my prayers. I pray that God will grant you all that you need during this time (I know that He will). We just serve that kind of God!
Whenever I think of the woman with an issue of blood, and how she expelled all she had for medical treatmenty, but when she made her way to Jesus and touched the hem of His garment. She immediately received her healing! Halleujah- God is full able!
Jane, I was so sorry to read this news. You will be in my prayers. Stay strong and positive, fight for your life, laugh, and pray. Oh, yeah . . . and do what the doctors say. We'll all be sending positive thoughts for your full recovery.
I'm sending you every good thought. Armour up. Fight. I'm sure you'll be victorious.
Sometimes these things make no sense. But I'm probably not telling you anything you haven't already thought.
Do whatever you need to do to fight this. And know that there are many of us out here, unseen, who are thinking of you.

Oh Jane...I'm so sorry. I'm just shocked! Please know that I will be thinking of you and, please, don't stop fighting. You keep fighting until you get yourself well!
Lung cancer strikes non-smokers, vegetarians can die of high blood pressure, and healthy joggers can die of a heart attack in an instant. God calls us when it's our time, BUT ... a diagnosis of cancer does NOT mean it's your time yet. Cancer patients win the battle with surprising regularity - keep your spirits, thoughts and positive energy up. My prayers and good thought vibes will be sent your way, that's a promise, Jane.

Life is capricious, willful, and at times, malicious. I understand that Doctors put great stock in the recuperative effects of a positive attitude and outlook. If anyone has this attributes, it's you. You're grounded, and centered, and capable of anything. All you need do now is bring those attributes to bear on your current problem. You can do this.
If you need anything, you know how to reach me...anytime.
All my very best and supportive wishes, Galen.
Thank you all for the wonderful words of encouragement, and your good thoughts, prayers and vibes. Your support is very much appreciated.
What a low blow! Somehow it's worse when you get blindsided like this. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers, Jane. And if it's any comfort, my younger brother is now six years post-surgery and chemo for his lung cancer and he's doing fine. Hang in there.
Oh my gosh, Jane. I feel for you and am keeping my fingers crossed as you fight this. Good luck!
